Hi I'm Julie Schiffman and I'm an EFT Practitioner at Dr. Mercola's Center for Natural Health. I have worked with literally thousands of people in the 12 years I've been at the clinic. Although I see people who are struggling with a variety of issues, weight loss is an insurmountable challenge for so may people.

There are a variety of factors to look at when someone wants to lose weight. There is information overload on the best way to lose weight. We see it all over the internet and we see it on television and we see so many books about it, thousands of books.

Most address the same obvious things such as - 'what are you eating', 'how much are you eating', 'eat less', 'make a plan', 'exercise', 'follow this diet it's the best diet' and 'drink water'.

All of these issues and questions are important, however one of the most important factors goes unaddressed often because people don't know where to start, and that's the emotional attachment we have to food.

This is a huge piece of the puzzle because we all know what it feels like to eat for comfort. Food is obviously important because it sustains us, it gives us energy, supplies our body with vitamins and nutrients to keep us healthy. But often we find ourselves feeling totally out of control when it comes to portion size or food quality and quantity, and off course, the one thing that is so easy to be addicted to - Sugar.

The more we eat of it the more we crave it, it's a vicious cycle, and once the craving begins our subconscious mind takes over and it feels like we have no control over saying 'NO' or making different choices for ourselves.

There are many aspects when it comes to alleviating cravings. What's going on in the moment you're having that craving, is it at the same time everyday? How are you feeling when you're craving a certain food. Are you bored, lonely, stressed out? Are you feeling sorry for yourself? Do you just need to escape for a moment? Does food numb you so you don't have to feel?

Often we eat bad foods out of habit, they taste good to us. But sometimes it doesn't even taste good but you eat it anyway, because you just need something to satisfy or comfort yourself. You may not even know why!

Emotions might not be the one and only factor to look at but this is one of the most important. And what I have seen over and over again is that if you are able to heal the underlying emotions connected to food and comfort, the cravings for unhealthy foods and habits will be easier to manage if not totally disappear. It won't be an effort anymore to try and stay away from the foods. You simply won't want them anymore.

I'm going to show you today how to tap for cravings, when you just have to have a diet soda, some ice-cream after dinner, or a piece of chocolate or more before bed. When you say to yourself "I'm going to have just one cookie" and ten minutes later you've eaten the whole box... how did that happen?

You barely realized what you were doing because you were zoning out while eating, and when you were done, there comes the guilt and the shame. "What was I thinking, what's wrong with me?" Nothing is wrong with you, you just need to address what's driving your relationship with food. Acknowledge it, accept this is where you're at right now and let it go.

Sounds simple? It can be and we're going to go through it together. You can pause this video and go get the food you crave the most, a potato chip, a cookie, diet soda, chocolate, whatever your thing is. If you don't have it with you, you can simply think about it, you already know everything about it even if you don't have it with you.

I'm going to use chocolate to demonstrate but you can change the wording for whatever your food is. We want you to get all of your senses heightened and aware. First open up the package, listen to the crinkly sound. What is the craving level on a scale of 0 - 10. '0' being no craving at all and '10' is you have to have it this instant and nothing is going to stop you.

Smell the food, feel the texture, hear the sounds that go with it. How does it make you feel, is the craving going up?

Karate Chop: (tapping on side of the hand - karate chop point)
Top of the Head: (tapping on top of the head)
Eyebrow: (tapping on the inner eyebrow, where the eyebrow begins)
Side of the Eye: (tapping on side of the eye, on the bone)
Under the Eye: (tapping under the eye, on the bone)
Under the Nose: (tapping under the nose)
Chin: (tapping on the chin, just beneath the lip where the crease is)
Collarbone: (tapping on the collarbone)
Under the Arm: (tapping under the arm, a hand-width under the armpit)
Wrists: (tapping the inside of your wrists together)
