Hi I'm Julie Schiffman and I'm an EFT Practitioner at Dr. Mercola's Center for Natural Health. Today I'm going to show you how to use Emotional Freedom Technique, also known as tapping, for physical pain.

People ask me all the time how to tap for pain because they can't find the words to use, especially if they're struggling. They feel like they don't really know where to start and they don't know what to say.

So I'm going to show you some tips today to get started. Start with what you do know, you know a lot, you know exactly where the pain is and how it feels.

We become experts at describing our pain because we feel it every day, and we want our family our friends and our doctors to really understand what it is we're going through.

Physical pain is our body's way of speaking to us, it's one of the many ways our body communicates with us. Very often we try to ignore it and try to forge ahead and move through it, but you probably have noticed that it just gets louder and more intense as time goes on.

Maybe painkillers and other medications have helped for a period of time, but it's likely that you are experiencing some sort of pain because the underlying emotions or stressors have not yet been addressed.

You might want to get a piece of paper and a pen to write down the following information. I'm going to ask you some questions, and this is something that you can keep for yourself in order to know what to say while you're tapping. It can help you to stay focussed on how you're feeling.

So I want you to tune into your body and recognize were the pain is located. Is it all over the body or is it just one specified area?

For this exercise I want you to pick one area that really bothers you. After you locate the pain or the discomfort, discover what the intensity is. On a scale of 0 - 10 how bad is it. '10' is the worst and '0' off course is none. It's always good to recognize the intensity before you start so you can identify how strong or how weak it is as it comes down.

Next I want you to describe the pain. Is it a dull ache? Is it a stabbing or shooting pain? Notice if the pain changes when you move. Many times people will say "It only hurts when I do this, when I move a certain way".

Is it a fluttering pain, is it pulsating? Is there a lot of pressure there? OK, so now you have really been listening to what your body is telling you, and now you can become more specific when you tap, you have all the words that you need to use.

For the purpose of this exercise I'm going to make it very general for you. If you have back pain, knee pain, stomach pain, headaches, arthritis or any other pain, just substitute it with your own words.

As always, remember to please take responsibility for your own emotional and physical well being. I'm going to tell you where to tap and what to say, and all you have to do is follow along.
