16 Tips and Remedies to Kill Underarm Body Odor Even The Smelliest BO

EXCESSIVE SWEATING & BODY ODOR By Frank Nadell (Page 7)

Bacteria thrives in dampness and when it mixes with sweat it releases an unpleasant pungent odor. If bad body odor is a real concern then try using an anti-bacterial soap when showering or bathing, then dry off completely before applying a pleasant smelling deodorant.

If this is still ineffective in curbing bad body odor then try a combination of tips and remedies below.

1 - Firstly, start by shaving your armpits to prevent bacteria from accumulating under your arms. Armpit hairs are also an obstruction when tackling armpit BO directly on the skin surface.

2 - Shower at least once a day and always wear fresh clean shirts. Sweat on its own is odorless and only begins to smell when it mixes with bacteria which then multiplies quite rapidly in a moist environment.

3 - If you suffer from excessive underarm sweating then try this duo combination. First apply a clinical strength (odorless) antiperspirant to your armpits to block the sweat glands, wait for a few minutes for the antiperspirant to soak into your skin and dry out. Then apply your favorite roll-on or stick deodorant.

4 - Try avoid eating strong smelling foods such as curries, garlic and onions, as they can seep through your skin pores when you begin to sweat and give off a strong 'not too pleasant' aroma.

5 - Cut back on eating red meat - Clinical studies show that body odor smells are much more less intense simply by cutting out red meat from your diet, if red meat is not properly digested it releases toxins into the bloodstream which is the main cause of body odor.

6 - Are you Zinc or Magnesium Deficient? Quite often chronic body odor can be the result of a zinc and magnesium mineral deficiency in your diet.

By taking the recommended safe dosage of zinc and magnesium supplement you will not only help to re-balance your metabolism and reduce certain body odors, but both these minerals can also help in reducing excessive perspiration (always stay within safe prescribed dosages).

7 - Take a chlorophyll tablet daily, not only can it help in deodorizing bad breath but it's also effective in reducing armpit odor and other odors. Chlorophyll acts as an internal cleansing aid which can be taken as a supplement to help clear out the gunk to detoxify your system and deodorize your body.

You might want to try Body Mint 'The Original Total-Body Deodorant' an all natural product made from a derivative of chlorophyll. Body Mint comes in tablet form and when taken daily it eliminates body odors from head to toe, including bad breath, underarm and foot odors.

8 - Research suggests that taking a daily helping of 'good bacteria', known as Probiotic, you can treat a wide variety of illnesses and improve your general well-being, including your intestinal health which helps to eliminate bad breath and bad body odor.

Probiotics can be taken in their natural form, plain live yoghurt, or as supplements in tablet or powder form.

9 - If your armpits are sensitive to chemical based antiperspirants or if you simply prefer to use something more natural, which is free from both alcohol and aluminum content and is much gentler to the skin, then try a herbal deodorant.

The home remedies listed below have been sourced from various internet forums and have been proven to be effective for eliminating underarm odor for up to 24 hours.

But please note, results will differ for each person and only through trial and error will you discover which home remedy works best for you (nb. if you experience any irritation then stop using the ingredients and see your doctor on other ways to treat underarm odor).

10 - Apple Cider Vinegar
- Dip a cotton ball into apple cider vinegar and dab it onto your underarms
- For maximum effectiveness wait for atleast 2 - 3 minutes
- Wash off the vinegar smell with warm-to-hot water but do not use soap

This is one of the more popular home remedies for neutralizing underarm odors. Apple cider vinegar is slightly acidic in nature and will eliminate the bacteria on the skin.

Although the regular apple cider vinegar will give good results, better results can be obtained by using unfiltered 'raw' apple cider vinegar. Also, some may find it easier and more convenient to use a small spray bottle instead of cotton balls.

11 - Bicarbonate of Soda
- Dip a wet finger into a bowl of bicarbonate of soda
- Rub gently into your armpit and repeat for other side

Bicarbonate of soda (also referred to as Baking Soda) neutralizes odors.

12 - Lemon or Lime
- Roll a lemon on a hard surface until soft
- Cut the lemon in half and remove the seeds, then use it as you would use a deodorant
- The lemon can be reused, just seal it and keep it in the fridge

The citric acid in the lemon kills the bacteria. If you prefer, lime can be used instead of lemon.

13 - Tea Tree Oil
- Use 'tea tree' essential oil instead of deodorant
- Tea tree oil can be diluted with a little water - 2 to 3 drops in 1 ounce of water

Tea tree oil has natural antiseptic properties and is very effective in killing bacteria.

14 - Hydrogen Peroxide
- Mix 1 teaspoon of hydrogen peroxide (3%) solution with a cup of water (about 8 oz)
- Dab on to the underarms with a cloth
- Increase the amount of peroxide if necessary

15 - Bicarbonate of Soda + Lemon + Tea Tree Oil
- Two teaspoons of bicarbonate of soda mixed with two teaspoons of lemon juice
- Apply to underarms and leave for a few minutes
- Wash the underarms with warm water
- Apply a few drops of tea tree oil to your underarms

Bicarbonate of soda and Baking Soda are the same thing. Also lime juice can also be used instead of lemon.

16 - Baking Soda + Cornstarch Deodorant
Mix the following to make your own home made deodorant
- 1 measure of baking soda (to neutralize odors)
- 1 measure of cornstarch (to absorb moisture)
- Add a few drops of aromatic essential oil (to give a pleasant scent)

(Do Not apply deodorant to your underarms after using any of the above remedies)

This may sound a little extreme but it may also save the day in times of emergency. Carry with you a small refillable spray bottle filled with perfume, and spray the perfume onto your clothes especially in the areas were the body odor is most prevalent. It won't solve your body odor problems but it will spare your blushes for the moment.
